CRYPTID SIGHTINGS IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS: THE STORIES THAT INSPIRED SQUATCH’N
Long before Squatch’N was ever created, the Smoky Mountains were home to some of the most chilling and fascinating cryptid reports in America.
This land has stories.
Some whispered.
Some shouted.
Some never explained.
These are the legends that shaped the world of Squatch’N.
The Classic Smoky Mountain Sasquatch
For decades, locals and hikers have reported towering figures slipping between trees, strange footprints where no person could reach, and deep guttural calls echoing across valleys at night.
These sightings gave birth to our main characters — Sasquatch Male and Sasquatch Female, the first two cryptids in the Squatch’N universe.
Their in-game personalities borrow from these legends:
• Quiet but powerful • Protective of the forest • Elusive but always watching
The Nantahala Shadow Figure
Near Topton and Robbinsville, nighttime drivers report a black, human-shaped silhouette moving unnaturally fast across rural roads.
Some say it watches from ridge lines.
Some say it follows.
Some say it’s not human.
This lore helped inspire our darker, more mysterious relic types — and future cryptids planned for later expansions.
The Cherokee Legend of Tsul ‘Kalu
Known as “The Slant-Eyed Giant,” this ancient being was said to roam the mountains long before settlers arrived.
